2004

May, 27 — Moscow: Opening of the photo-exhibition «Faces of Egypt: Past and Present of the Great Civilization» at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The exhibition is focused on the CES RAS archaeological expeditions at Memphis, Deir el-Banat and Alexandria as well as the Conservation of Al-Mo'allaqa Church Project.



2003

September, 10–14 — St.-Petersburg: The Ninth Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeology. The CES RAS in cooperation with Dr. Amanda-Alice Maravelia (University of Limoges) organized a session «Modern Trends in European Egyptology». The papers, presented at this session, were focused on the latest archaeological discoveries, Egyptian collections in European museums, archeoastronomy, and informatics in Egyptology. The Proceedings of St Petersburg have been published in: Maravelia, A.–A. (ed.): Modern Trends in European Egyptology: Papers from a Session, held at the European Association of Archaeologists 9th Annual Meeting in St. Petersburg 2003, BAR International Series 1448. Oxford, 2005.



2002

October, 27 — Moscow: Dr. Ibrahim Darvich was invited by the CES RAS to The Moscow Municipal Pedagogical University, where he gave a lecture «Treasures of Alexandria: the Tragedy of the Sunken Cities». Dr. Darvich, the Director of The National Museum of Alexandria, is the founder of the Department of Underwater Archaeology of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of A.R. Egypt. He is a participant of different underwater archaeological expeditions, which recovered the submerged city Heraclion, the palace of Cleopatra and many other monuments.

September, 24–29 — Thessaloniki: the Eighth Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeology. The CES RAS in cooperation with Dr. Amanda-Alice Maravelia (University of Limoges) organized a session «Europe, Hellas and Egypt: Complementary Antipodes during Late Antiquity». The papers, presented at the session were focused on political, economic and cultural contacts between Egypt, Hellas and Europe as well as on the history of European Egyptology and Egyptian collections kept in European Museums. The materials of the Section were published in: A.-A. Maravelia (ed.) Europe, Hellas and Egypt: Complementary antipodes during Late Antiquity. BAR International Series 1218. Oxford, 2004

May, 12 — Moscow: a seminar on the problems of Coptic culture. The main topics of seminar, organized by the CES RAS, included presentation of the results of the «Conservation of Coptic Icons» Project.
