About the Centre

Research activities

The work of the Centre for Egyptological Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences is being done within the framework of the research program «Problems of Origin and Development of Ancient Egyptian State» within the following directions:

The staff of the Center is working at the following themes:

• Genesis and development of interrelations between ancient Egypt, Asiatic and African states and tribal formations (Galina A. Belova);
• The problems of state formation; processes of formation of the institute of royal power and religious-mythological system in Early Dynastic and Dynastic Egypt (Tatiana A. Sherkova);
• The Sed-festival in Ancient Egypt (Alexei A. Krol);
• The cult of goddess Hathor in ancient Egypt (Roman A. Orekhov);
• Ancient Egyptian dramatic texts and performances (Maria Yu. Lavrentieva);
• The life after death and the Hereafter in the culture of ancient Egypt (Irina B. Kulikova);
• Social-economic relations in ancient Egypt during the New Kingdom.
  Art and handicraft (Sergej V. Ivanov);
• Images of birds in ancient Egyptian mythology and their parallels in the Coptic Art (Elena G. Tolmacheva).

• Conservation and study of Al-Mo'allaqa Church in the Old Cairo, in co-operation with The Asswan Est. for Construction and Reconstruction and The Grabar Art Caonservation Center. Details >>>>
