Deir el-Banat

Third field season, 2005

From January 15 till January 25, 2005 the Centre for Egyptological Studies of the RAS along with the Institute of Bioarchaeology (USA) and Soqqia Co. (Japan) conducted the third field season at Deir el-Banat (Fayoum).

Members of the mission:

• Dr. Galina A. Belova – Director;
• Alexey  A. Krol — Deputy Director;
• M. Ed-Did Mo'amen — Inspector of the SCA;
• Sergej  V. Ivanov — Egyptologist.
• Topographical and Geodesic works were made by the staff of the Cairo Department of the Soqqia Co.

The aim of the season was making a precise topographical map of the area and establishing of reference points tied to the Global Positioning System (GPS). During the work there were established four additional point that are necessary for proper square-zoning of the site.

The Centre for Egyptological Studies would like to thank Dr. Zahi Hawass, The Director General of the SCA, Dr. Magdi El Gandour, Dr. Mohamed  A. Abd Ellatef, Mrs. Magda el-Kholi the Chief Inspector of the sector of Islamic, and Coptic Monuments of the Fayoum Inspectorate and the monks of Deir el-Malaq monastery, whose help was vital for organizing and conducting proper work of the expedition.
